Oscars 2020 scandals and winners

Oscars 2020 scandals and winners… fashion-wise. Everyone won his own Oscar during this the most fabulous event. Billy Porter won public “Oscar” of attention to his outfits he showed at the Oscar ceremony and after party. One for red carpet, another one for the performance, and another one for Vanity Fair Oscar After Party. He indeed won 3 prices.

His red carpet dress, inspired by Kensington Palace, and designed by Giles Deacon. Top piece made of 24 karat gold feathers. Solid gold, babe! He said to the media about him wearing a dresses: “I don’t see female energy… I see a dude wearing armour, wearing something that’s artistic and innately couture.”

Billy Porter opened with Janelle Monáe Oscars 2020 with a tribute to the legendary Mister Rogers singing “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”. Billy Porter joined Monáe to sing Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” and absolutely fabulous golden coat. Strangely enough all media was not able to name wonderful designers who actually created this amazing golden coat. THE BLONDS – David and Phillipe Blond from New York. This intricate piece they showed in September 2018 for Spring Summer 2019 collection “Disney Villains and The Blonds”.

Even all attention were given to amazing garments of Billy Porter, Renee Zellweger was able to have her grace shown in a gown worthy of an award itself. The Best Actress nominee chose a white one-shoulder sequined, floor-sweeping Armani Prive gown for the awards show. Renee Zellweger in Armani Privé at the 2020 Oscars.

Scarlett Johansson was well noted in her elegant Oscar de la Renta gown at the 2020 Oscars red carpet.

One of the celebrities who chose to embrace sustainability on the 2020 Oscars red carpet was Margot Robbie. The Best Supporting Actress nominee chose to wear a vintage Chanel dress from the Spring-Summer 1994 Haute Couture collection. This dress completed with an oversized pendant pinned to the sweetheart neckline and two flowy “sleeves” topped with bow, which was originally the part of the dress. Happily we have in our archives this look presented in 1994 at the Spring Summer 1994 Haute Couture show by Claudia Schiffer.

Kate Young, stylist of Margot Robbie, told to media that they picked the dress months ago. “We discovered this 90s couture gown in Chanel’s archive back in December 2019. It’s very similar to the short dress that Claudia Schiffer wore on Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring Summer 1994 couture runway, but it was made for a client, so it’s truly unique. It just felt very Margot — it felt cool.”

Natalie Portman‘s Dior cape had a hidden message, naming all women directors. Her custom Dior Haute Couture dress in Oriental style, a black bodysuit with sheer gown with gold embroidering and a cape, had names embroidered in gold all along the seams of cape. Those are names of all of the female directors who were snubbed this year, including Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim), Alma Har’el (Honey Boy), Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) and Mati Diop (Atlantics). Natalie Portman said the media that she “wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my [own] subtle way.”

Another dress deserves a great attention – the custom Ralph Lauren dress made for Janelle Monáe. Star Wars look-ish silver long-sleeved gown with a sparkly hood took nearly 600 hours to make. The dress was covered in 170,000 Swarovski crystals, sewn on by hand. All that sparkle meant serious weight and became so heavy that four people had to carry the skirt to Monáe’s dressing room.

It is almost impossible to describe all amazing garments shown at the Oscars 2020. But of course some of them always worth mentioning. Charlize Theron choose Dior, Brie LarsonCeline, Salma Hayek obviously wore in Gucci (as she happily ever after married into it).

And some garments are indeed worth to mention. In the words of Alice from “Alice in Wonderland” some dresses are “Curiouser and curiouser!”

It is probably understandable the choice of great Sigourney Weaver – she thought she’d choose a classic “Greek” look from Dior. Although this great actress didn’t look like a Greek goddess, as one would hope, she ended up look like a peasant from middle age – these Dior new looks are deceptive and confusing, aren’t they.

Sandra Oh also received lots of “ah” and “oh” from public. This larger-than-life Elie Saab dress with its puffed abnormal sleeves and massive tulle fabrics didn’t fit her at all, it didn’t add anything to her personality, and didn’t add any elegance or grace to her posture.

Billie EIlish, young singer, which is perfectly fit in Gucci spirit, strangely enough accepted custom made Chanel pantsuit. Chanel is definitely not ready for teen rocking. Making huge pockets on baggy looking vest with Chanel logos didn’t make it even close to teen rock. Wrap it up, wrap it up! This was one of the outfits who raised lots of critics and considered one of the most ridiculous.

And the Oscar 2020 for most ridiculous dress goes to…. goes to…. Kristen Wiig for her Lasagna Valentino Haute Couture dress. Kristen Wiig wore Valentino Haute Couture dress – the bright red frock, which featured sheer panels on the bust and cascading rows of ruffles on the skirt, was paired with black opera gloves. “Looks like lasagna” – it was a statement, or in another worlds “lasagna was all around”, and it drew plenty of reaction online. Kristen Wiig, an actress known for being funny, reacted with humor on all these critics.
