Balenciaga Spring Summer 2020 Paris Fashion Week. Creative director of the house Demna Gvasalia showed a collection addressed to working people. Program notes read, “reimagines dressing for work: power dressing, no matter what one does as a job.” Gvasalia showed looks for mechanical engineer, private equity associate, law student, architect, gallerist, stylist, violinist… European blue velvet covered space from ceiling to the floor giving to his collection a ceremonial meaning.
Demna Gvasalia said that his message in this collection was about uniform dressing. “It’s like fashion as uniform to me… Like, I try to imagine and to kind of create this aesthetic uniform.” Ceremonial mood of the show he explained trough his feeling of the world of fashion in some sort of satirical and literal way where everything is “big, bigger, biggest”. “This is what I feel my mission is about at Balenciaga, to continue experimenting with volume.”
