Los Angeles, renowned as the birthplace of American entertainment and a hub for avant-garde artistry, serves as an eclectic and dynamic playground for creative endeavors. It is the perfect location to showcase the CHANEL Cruise 2024 collection, which traditionally embodies the allure of far-flung voyages.
Welcome to LA! Chanel has introduced the Chanel Cruise collection, marking the beginning of the resort season with a breathtaking show held at Paramount Studios. Returning to Los Angeles after 15 years since the memorable show at Santa Monica airport, the collection captures the spirit of the city with a delightful blend of humor and nostalgia from the late ’70s and early ’80s.
It features a vibrant array of colors, dazzling embellishments, and draws inspiration from various elements such as pop culture references, touches of skater culture, funky influences, glamorous Hollywood aesthetics, and subtle sporty accents. Throughout, the collection maintains a Parisian allure, perfectly embodying the essence of resort wear for women in 2024.
The front row of the Chanel show was graced by a constellation of stars, including Margot Robbie, Kristen Stewart, Riley Keough, Issa Rae, and Marion Cotillard. Adding to the show’s star-studded ambiance, Snoop Dogg who did post-show performance while sporting a Chanel scarf like a Babushka.
Last week, the brand’s largest 30,000-square-foot store in the United States opened on Rodeo Drive, a landmark moment as it marks almost 100 years since Coco Chanel’s first visit to California in 1931. The fashion icon’s designs have graced the silver screen in films by directors such as George Cukor and Jean Renoir. During his 36-year stint at the label, Karl Lagerfeld strengthened Chanel’s ties to cinema, cultivating friendships with the likes of Penelope Cruz and Tilda Swinton.
In anticipation of the Chanel show, billboards advertising the “One Night Only” event were placed around Los Angeles, emphasizing Chanel’s deep-rooted presence in the city’s dominant culture. The show’s youthful and sporty theme, featuring leg warmers, wedge heel sneakers, running shorts, and swim tanks, is a departure from the brand’s usual classic aesthetic, reflecting the laid-back and trendy vibe of Venice Beach. This collection caters to every occasion, including Margot Robbie’s upcoming press tour for the summer’s most anticipated movie, Barbie.
