Chanel Fall Winter 2023-2024 Ready-to-Wear “Chanel Camellia Stuffing” Paris Fashion Week. Story by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE. Photo Courtesy: Chanel.
This Chanel collection is dedicated to Camellia, not just any camellia, but iconic camellia of Chanel – an eternal code of the House. Motions of light, camellia flowers and black-and-white all refer to the spirit of Chanel, “CHANEL CAMELLIA STUFFING”.
So we see Camellia in black, white, red and pink, on the accessoires, fabrics, boots. It feels like a “Camellia stuffing”, the use of the codes to the fullest.
Chanel ambassador Nana Komatsu posing for the film and supporting images to the collection. We see her riding an antique carousel in a black-and-white landscape, we see her in an artistic mess in black and white room, a recreated cinematic interior world from William Klein’s movie “Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?”.
What is the link between camellia and this movie? There’s none, but it looks a little intellectual.
Virginie Viard imagined it like this, in some sort of marketing move. Something has to justify this Camellia Chanel stuffing. Why not a very intellectual, very contemporary and revolutionary fashion film.
Inez & Vinoodh made a short film for this collection.
