Haunted film, populated by stories, Last Year in Marienbad by Alain Resnais (1961) is a revolution artistic crossed by a sophisticated look, developed by Gabrielle Chanel around the idea, central to her home, freedom of movement.
“The films that we have seen, those that possess us and also those that we make, Marienbad, the New Vague, the look according to Gabrielle Chanel, Karl, the night, feathers, sequins, heels: I like when things get mixed up,” observes Virginie Viard.
Bows, boas, rhinestone ankle boots, jersey worked like scales, white sequined jacket, unstructured prints, pastel tweeds; golden dress in crushed velvet, black slit on the side, casting on the body; in lace, like a flower or in light chiffon: the Ready-to-Wear collection Chanel Spring-Summer 2023 is a collage. Imagined by Virginie Viard as a stroll free in the middle of fragments, it exposes an imaginary confronted with itself, offers variations on the look theme.
Kristen Stewart is its most faithful incarnation today. “Whether it’s her, or the other women I dress, I need to feel that they love the garment. But, of the people around me, she is the closest to Gabrielle Chanel, at least from the idea that I have. She understands Chanel, her garment. And with it it becomes even more modern. This collection is also her. »
“Our identities are lifelong, evolving art projects. To know who you are is to adopt an animal subject to change. It’s not a fixed notion. The mythologies that define us, that unite us, they’re ours to create.”
“When the body is no longer exclusively preoccupied with its elegance, when the obsession with being beautiful has given way to an inner attitude – attitude of mind rather than display of pride – then a woman has everything together gained in naturalness, youth and simplicity. She has just taken a giant step towards her own fulfillment.” Gabrielle Chanel
It’s this fulfillment that Kristen Stewart embodies for the Chanel collection, imagined by Virginie Viard.
Melting with the cinematic background within the Grand Palais Éphémère, the first silhouette of the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection by Virginie Viard is punctuated by a black-and-white top. Worn with two-tone tweed flats and thinly veiled by a sheer cape, it expresses a new vision of allure where the Nouvelle Vague is infused with a collage of modern glamour.
