As the festive season descends upon us, the illustrious Claridge’s hotel in London once again captivates visitors and guests with its enchanting and meticulously crafted Christmas tree. This year’s centerpiece, a testament to artistry and sophistication, draws inspiration from the world of travel, weaving together the realms of haute couture and the spirit of exploration.
Over the past decade, Claridge’s lobby has played host to an array of breathtaking and distinctive tree designs, each bearing the hallmark of renowned fashion icons. From the Christian Louboutin Christmas Loubi Express to Karl Lagerfeld’s whimsical upside-down tree evoking childhood memories, these installations have etched their own unique tales into the hotel’s illustrious history. Dolce & Gabbana’s grand seven-meter tree adorned with handcrafted Sicilian marionettes, Diane von Furstenberg’s romantic ‘Tree of Love,’ and the creative marvels of Christopher Bailey for Burberry and Sandra Choi for Jimmy Choo have contributed to the legacy of opulence and creativity surrounding Claridge’s seasonal centerpiece.
Traditionally, iconic fashion houses such as Jimmy Choo, Dior, Christian Louboutin, and Karl Lagerfeld have reimagined Claridge’s Christmas tree, infusing it with their distinctive styles. However, in 2023, the honor befalls the esteemed Louis Vuitton, a longstanding friend of the hotel. Their collaborative effort results in a truly breathtaking creation—a magnificent, sculptural display framed between two towering LV trunks, a symbol of the enduring bond between the fashion powerhouse and this historic establishment.
The design narrative unfolds with 15 chrome trunks of varying heights, meticulously arranged to form the silhouette of a traditional Christmas tree. Mirroring the Art Deco architecture of Claridge’s, these silver trunks stand as an ode to elegance and heritage. Delicately scattered across the glistening trunks and the snowy landscape encircling the tree are 21 Louis Vuitton mascots, including the iconic figure of Father Christmas himself. Two colossal LV trunks, adorned with Claridge’s travel stickers and oversized Louis Vuitton luggage tags, envelop the tree in a display of classic LV style.
What adds a deeply personal touch to this opulent spectacle is the homage paid to Gaston-Louis Vuitton, the grandson of the brand’s founder, who, as an ardent collector and traveler, adorned his luggage with hotel stickers as cherished keepsakes.
Claridge’s Christmas tree for 2023 is not just a festive ornament; it’s a fusion of luxury, artistic expression, and the spirit of exploration. It embodies the seamless marriage of fashion and travel, paying homage to the shared ethos of Louis Vuitton and the esteemed hotel.
Visitors are invited to revel in the splendor of this exquisite creation, basking in the elegance and wonderment that has become synonymous with Claridge’s and the holiday season.
