Davide Renne, the talented Italian fashion designer and former head of women’s wear at Gucci, departed this world only nine days after assuming his new position as the creative director of Moschino. He was a 46 years old.

His untimely demise in Milan on November 10 was confirmed by Aeffe, the parent company of Moschino, on Friday. Sources familiar with the matter suggested that he had died of a heart failure.

In a statement, Massimo Ferretti, the Chairman of Aeffe, expressed the indescribable pain they are enduring at this tragic moment, adding, “Today, we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity only envisioned.”

“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened. With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends,” says Massimo Ferretti, Chairman of Aeffe SpA.

Davide Renne, who had dedicated 20 years of his life to Gucci before his recent appointment at Moschino, had been diligently working on his debut collection, which was slated to be showcased at Milan Fashion Week in February. He was a beloved figure in the realm of Italian fashion and had served as a right-hand man to the former Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele. Renne had enthusiastically embraced his “dream role” at the helm of one of the most renowned names in Italian fashion.

A heartfelt tribute from Mr. Michele on Instagram encapsulates the profound loss: “My sweet friend, inseparable brother, so much love. What an amazing and unforgettable journey we had together. So many laughs and pure joy.” He praised Renne as “one of the most talented creatives I’ve ever known” and shared his deep sorrow.

“Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned,” said Massimo Ferretti in a statement posted on Instagram.

Davide Renne’s journey began in Follonica, Tuscany, in July 1977. He pursued his education at both the University of Florence and Polimoda fashion school, and his career commenced under the guidance of Italian fashion designer and mentor, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, before he joined Gucci in 2004.

Renne’s appointment as Moschino’s Creative Director was unveiled in October, and he was poised to introduce his inaugural collection at Milan Fashion Week in February. In his own words, he believed in the spirit of play and joy, a sense of discovery, and experimentation in the world of fashion, especially Italian fashion. He was eager to explore the legacy left by Franco Moschino, who was known for his quirky sense of humor and innovative design.

Mr. Renne succeeded the American designer Jeremy Scott, who departed the brand last March. His contributions to the world of fashion will be remembered with great reverence and admiration.
