Dior Fall Winter 2024-2025 Men “Rudolf Nureyev or hanky-wearing Monty Python Gumby’s – My Brain Hurts”. Story by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE. Photo Courtesy: Dior.
As a devoted admirer of Kim Jones, I expected another stellar performance from the designer in the Fall Winter 2024-2025 Men’s Collection for Dior. Alas, what unfolded on the runway could only be described as a fashion comedy that left the audience in stitches. This collection is not his best… probably the worst, even funny. I love Monty Python’s Flying Circus. This collection is Monty Python Gumby’s sketch “My Brain Hurts”. The knotted hanky hats kill it. John Cleese would’ve been proud.

Press-release reads that “Kim Jones discusses his late uncle, Colin Jones, and his photographic record of the ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.”
The press release tantalizingly promised inspiration from Rudolf Nureyev, but alas, there was no trace of the legendary ballet dancer. Instead, we were treated to models that resembled a peculiar blend of young men trapped in a time warp (I mean retarded young men), donning outrageously short pants and the aforementioned questionable headgear (and I mean the knotted hanky hats).

Turtle necks paired with top-tanks and ruffles reminiscent of 19th-century women’s underwear added an unexpected feminine touch, raising eyebrows and perhaps unintentional chuckles. These turtle necks pieces paired with top-tanks and ruffles straight out of a Victorian lingerie catalog. Because nothing says “high fashion” like looking like you raided your great-great-grandmother’s undergarment drawer.
From sparkling jackets to mini-dresses, Chinese silk coats with vibrant embroideries, and an occasional denim ensemble straight from a ’70s flower-power wardrobe – it was a chaotic symphony of styles. The collection, a mishmash of styles that seemed to have been chosen by drawing random concepts and featured everything from sparkling jackets to mini-dresses, as if the fashion blender accidentally hit the “random” button.
As the show reached its climax, the audience was left in stunned silence – not the awe-struck kind, but the kind that comes when you’re trying to process a truly bizarre sequence of events. The hanky hat had done its magic, leaving us all scratching our heads and desperately searching for the hidden cameras…. And then smiling. We guessed – “Monty Python – My Brain Hurts”.

In the end, Kim Jones’ Fall Winter 2024-2025 Dior Men collection may not have been a triumph, but it undoubtedly left a lasting impression. The knotted hanky hat, the short pants, and the eclectic mishmash of styles stumbled hilariously.
It was not just a fashion show, it was a satirical masterpiece. Kim Jones, the fashion jester, had us all laughing in the face of conventional style, proving that sometimes the best way to appreciate high fashion is with a hearty dose of lowbrow humor. Bravo, Dior, bravo!
