Today, Dior Men’s Spring Summer 2025 collection was unveiled, captivating hearts with its vibrant and delightful charm. Under the artistic direction of Kim Jones, this collection radiates joy, celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship and artistic expression in a way that feels both intimate and grand. Inspired by the whimsical world of South African ceramicist Hylton Nel, each piece is a love letter to the dedication and skill of the artisans behind Dior.
Kim Jones beautifully articulated his vision, saying, “In this collection, I wanted to concentrate on elements of craft, the skills of the ateliers and artisans who work for the house: this is the lifeblood of Dior. There is always a sense of biography when it comes to the house, that of Christian Dior and the succession of designers, here combined with the life of the ceramicist Hylton Nel. This collection is a celebration of work and an expression of who somebody is and what they achieve through work, that legacy and continuity through time.”
The collection is a delightful blend of craft and color, reflecting the playful and heartwarming motifs of Nel’s ceramics. The silhouettes are both sculptural and practical, reminiscent of the forms found in pottery. Tailoring and outerwear feature rounded volumes, giving a soft yet confident finish. Notably, an unrealized Saint-Laurent sketch from Autumn-Winter 1958 has been brought to life, adding a touch of historical magic to the collection.
Knitwear in this collection is a joyful exploration of form and pattern, adorned with playful prints and ceramic-inspired fastenings. Accessories are equally enchanting, combining functionality with an artistic touch. The footwear, particularly the handcrafted clogs, embodies this blend perfectly. Using materials like beech wood and calf leather, these shoes transform a traditional working shoe into something truly special, with rubber soles for added comfort.
One standout is the iconic Saddle bag, reimagined with soft construction and curvilinear contours that mirror other silhouettes in the collection. The bags, made from a mix of durable canvas, raffia, and leather, are both practical and elegant. Adding a final charming touch are the cloche hats, hand-crocheted by local craftspeople in Cape Town and adorned with ceramic beads in Paris. This collaboration beautifully showcases the global and local artisans coming together without hierarchy, united by their pride and skill.
