An Epic Lay of Trinacria’s Living Gardens

Sing, Muse, of the night Olympus emptied its golden halls,

Of goddesses walking where the shadow of Etna falls.

At Radicepura, where the mortal and divine entwine,

The earth itself turned to silk, and the soil to sacred wine.

Behold, the first divinity rises from the fertile loam,

A living chalice of deep magenta and softest pink foam.

Her bodice is the petal, her heart a crown of starlight spun,

As glistening, crystal-tipped pistils reach upward to the sun,

An offering of dew and light, frozen in sacred grace,

To shield the quiet majesty of her immortal face.

Upon a gilded Roman couch, a tired goddess rests her head,

Drowned in a tempest of painted tulle, a sea of violent red.

Her crown is sculpted white, like the pure Capodimonte clay,

A halo of porcelain garland to keep the night at bay.

Beneath her crimson veil, the ancient secrets softly sleep,

In gardens where the watchful gods their silent vigils keep.

Then walks the queen of the dark earth, her midnight mantle cast,

Stitched with the heavy roses of a grand, romantic past.

A cascade of violet, blush, and crimson clings to her gown,

As if the very flora of Sicily had wandered down.

Behind her glide the devotees in solemn, lace-veiled grace,

The timeless Sicilian widows who transcend both time and space.

Another steps in emerald armor, a woven sacred cage,

A living trellis holding all the triumphs of the age.

Bright satin blossoms—azure, gold, and fiery orange-red—

Are pinned like captured summers to the structure of her thread,

While dark, transparent netting drapes her proud, imperial brow,

A tribute to the ancient vines that to her beauty bow.

And she who commands the elements, in contrast bold and grand,

Wraps warm, imperial sables o’er a bright, celestial land.

Her gown, a sea of turquoise silk, is paved with stitched delight,

A thousand colored petals blooming brilliant in the night,

Crowned with a tower of roses that the Roman spring once knew,

As mortal eyes weep tears of joy to see the dream made true.

The Eden of Olympus

Fourteen years after launching their high-fashion pilgrimage in Taormina, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have returned to the soil where it all began. The Alta Moda 2026 presentation at the Radicepura Horticultural Park was not merely a runway; it was a breathtaking meeting of myth and reality, transforming the fertile slopes beneath Mount Etna into a living, breathing canvas of fatto a mano excellence.

The collection unfolded as an older Sicilian tale of gods and mortals. As a voiceover heralded the descent of goddesses from Olympus to meet their waiting earthly devotees, the botanical park’s thousands of native flora became a backdrop for wearable art that challenged the boundaries of human handiwork.

A Living Botanical Tapestry

The essence of Sicily’s vibrant blooms was translated into structured silhouettes through masterful craftsmanship. Among the most striking presentations:

• The Living Bouquet: Employing an intricate micro-draped inlay technique, decolleté dresses were transformed into structured floral sculptures. Countless featherlight strips of silk chiffon were guided and pinned entirely by hand, perfectly tracing the delicate, hidden anatomy of petals and leaves.
• The Pistil Bodice: In a brilliant display of uninhibited texture, dozens of bedazzled, crystal-tipped pink and green pistils burst upward from a dramatic, sculpted petal bodice, framing the model’s face like an exotic, nocturnal bloom.
• The Tectonic Trellis: Structures resembling classical ornamental wire garden frames served as cages for explosions of vibrant satin roses in bright blue, tangerine, and magenta. The result is a stunning structural contrast of strict geometry draped in soft, organic beauty.

Capodimonte Porcelain and Terracotta Treasures

The collection also celebrated the noble decorative arts of southern Italy, marrying fashion with historic manufacturing traditions:

• Authentic Porcelain Garlands: The legendary opulence of Capodimonte porcelain was brought to the runway. Delicate, hand-painted golden scrolls and three-dimensional ceramic garlands were worked into heavy duchesse and gazar. In the show’s crowning moments, authentic porcelain elements, molded using centuries-old techniques, were integrated directly into the garments.
• The Sinuous Urn: Drawing inspiration from the ornate terracotta pots lining ancient Sicilian terraces, several corsets and bodices were shaped to mirror classical vases. Glossy green leaves and delicate orange blossoms hand-sculpted from duchesse fabric clung to the bodices, winding upwards into sleeves that framed the shoulders like climbing vines.

A Grand Return to Trinacria

Radicepura, already spanning five hectares and hosting thousands of Mediterranean plant species, was augmented with tens of thousands of hydrangeas, roses, and petunias, creating a sensory experience where colors could almost be tasted.

As Léonie Cassel opened the sunset show, winding through flowerbeds where models perched on antique velvet settees and floral thrones, the collection bridged the gap between historical reverence and modern-day couture. From the house’s signature black Sicilian lace widows to dramatic turquoise silk gowns wrapped in luxurious sables, the night solidified Dolce & Gabbana’s unmatched ability to turn landscape, history, and couture into pure, unforgettable magic.

The Grand Epilogue: Where the Gods Leave Their Slippers

As the final notes of the opera faded into the warm Sicilian night, the boundary between Olympus and the mortal world closed once more—leaving behind a hallucinatory garden littered with diamond-encrusted pistils, shattered expectations of what fabric can achieve, and a few exceptionally wealthy mortals wondering if they could legally marry a duchesse-fabric terracotta urn. Domenico and Stefano didn’t just stage a runway show; they pulled off a divine heist, stealing the very soul of the Mediterranean and draping it over the shoulders of the global elite. For one brief, magnificent hour, we weren’t just watching fashion; we were witnessing a secular miracle where even the porcelain learned how to breathe.
