The Dolce & Gabbana Alta Sartoria men’s fashion show held in Ostuni, the White City, was a breathtaking spectacle that beautifully blended tradition and innovation. Set against the backdrop of Ostuni’s blinding white stone buildings and cobblestone alleys, the show took inspiration from the cherished tradition of the trousseau, where the trousseau’s elements were transformed into exquisite men’s garments.

The designers, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, paid homage to the age-old practice of preparing a trousseau for daughters born in Southern Italy. They reimagined this tradition, envisioning a future where these cherished heirlooms could be repurposed and transformed into timeless pieces for men. The idea of passing down the trousseau’s embroidered tablecloths, linens, and lace-trimmed napkins and turning them into shirts, jackets, trousers, and more was at the core of their collection.
The color palette of the collection was a reflection of the ethereal and magical atmosphere of the show. Beige, white, and a hint of brown dominated the designs, accentuated by the classic Dolce & Gabbana black. Gold threads and intricate embroideries added a touch of opulence to the garments, evoking a sense of luxury and refinement. The designers meticulously sourced fabrics from various ready-made kits collected throughout Southern Italy, incorporating tablecloths and sheets with rich embroideries into their creations. They also used 3D printed resin corsets inspired by the renowned ceramics of Grottaglie, originating from Ostuni, to embellish selected looks.

The runway showcased a range of designs that exuded strength and sophistication. Draped garments that appeared to be sculpted from marble graced the models, creating an aura of timeless elegance. Additionally, warrior-inspired looks featured corsets that were intricately sewn onto the garments, reminiscent of ancient armor. This fusion of classical and contemporary elements showcased the designers’ ability to seamlessly blend tradition with innovation.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Sartoria men’s show in Ostuni was a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage, and imagination. By breathing new life into the concept of the trousseau, the designers honored Southern Italian traditions while adding their own unique twist. The collection’s exquisite color palette, meticulous embroideries, and the incorporation of historical elements demonstrated the brand’s commitment to creating sartorial masterpieces that are both visually captivating and steeped in cultural significance. Once again, Dolce & Gabbana has proven their ability to push the boundaries of fashion and deliver a truly unforgettable experience.
