Elie Saab Fall-Winter 2018-19 Paris Fashion Week. While the cold settles in, casting its grey hue over cityscapes, a flowery display takes over the ELIE SAAB Autumn Winter 2018-2019 Ready-to-Wear, as if capturing every last bloom and transforming them into a collection that exudes dark romance.
Predominantly black, with touches of white, blush, powder blue, and burgundy, the collection boasts a series of signature floral prints, embroideries and appliqués. Like bouquets brought to life from an expressive painting, blossoms are found in many forms. They peek through the folds of draped and pleated fabric, appear under layers of fine black tulle and intricate lace, or as all-over prints on sharp tailored blazers, pants and dresses. On long jackets and elegant evening dresses, the bouquets burst from the waist, finishing in a flowery layer at the hems. ELIE SAAB takes this floral display further with 3D badges adorning jackets and skirts, tone-on-tone laser cut leather and rich jacquards. Oversized crystal bows appear on the shoulders and finish mohair sweaters.
Inspired by the Victorian era— high necklines, ruffles, defined shoulders and statement sleeves play into the collection’s air of romance. Velvet bows, reminiscent of those found in Renoir’s paintings, effortlessly drape from collars and act as ties on loose ponytails. Full-sequin outfits appear, shimmering in the dark, while wide-legged pants and jumpsuits add to the perpetual movement of the airy and layered fabrics.
Tulle dresses in gold diamante, add to the collection’s penchant for elegant refinement.
This season, ELIE SAAB formally presents the maison’s emblem in the form of an all-over monogram print that adorns dresses. It is also featured as a carved golden element on some of the collection’s leather bags, with large buckle shoulder straps or top handles. For a feminine touch, bags studded with pearls or large crystals come in each size. All-new heel designs premier this season as the gem shaped cap of the maison’s signature perfume bottle is interpreted into a metallic and diamond-like finishing to the footwear collection.
For the welcome rays of winter sun, eyewear take on a rounded shape this season, with pearl rims lining their slim-frames.
Replete with ELIE SAAB signature detail, dentelle, poise and demure luxury, this rich and refined Autumn Winter 2018-2019 Ready-to-Wear collection is not only a clin d’oeil to whimsical winter bouquets, but continues the maison’s long and ever-present ode to femininity.
