On a June evening in Shanghai, Hermès presented the second chapter of its Fall-Winter 2025 women’s collection. Artistic director Nadège Vanhée brought the Parisian house to the North Bund Bay with precision, showcasing a collection that was equal parts refined, technical, and quietly opulent. Against the backdrop of the Huangpu River and the illuminated skyline, Hermès reaffirmed its position as a brand that rarely misses its mark.

Titled “Au Galop!”, the collection explored the concept of movement—across cities, eras, and identities. Set on a striking orange runway with a view of the Lujiazui skyline, the show unfolded with deliberate elegance. Boats cruised along the river as lights dimmed and a wall opened to reveal the cityscape. Champagne infused with rice wine and floating wildflowers served as an overture to the main performance: layers upon layers of expertly crafted garments.

The modular nature of the collection was at its core. “Timelessness” and “transformation” were the keywords, as Vanhée delivered pieces that shift and adapt to the wearer’s needs. A leather dress unzips into a gilet and pencil skirt; a coat’s printed lining detaches and becomes a standalone piece; and a coat’s upper portion converts into a cropped jacket—all without visible fastenings. These are not gimmicks but intentional design features, reinforcing the idea of investment dressing in an uncertain luxury market.

Vanhée’s signature braid motif ran throughout—from the Dressage Tressage silk carré by Virginie Jamin to the hand-braided trim on a Kelly bag. It signaled Hermès’s equestrian heritage while simultaneously referencing the interweaving of Parisian savoir-faire with Shanghainese energy.

Rich textiles defined the look: fur jackets in wine tones, double-faced cashmere, and silk scarves cinched with house rings. The silhouettes referenced Shanghai streetwear with button-up shirts and knits wrapped around the waist—but executed in fine leathers and noble fabrics. Accessories followed suit: Mini Kellys worn crossbody or backpack-style, and new Hermès leather headphones from Atelier Horizons—luxury, redefined through subtle functionality.

Despite the focus on transformation and layering, nothing felt excessive. Every look was calibrated, every combination precisely measured. The overall effect: poised, structured, and relevant.

Shanghai, with its cultural duality of modernity and heritage, served as a fitting canvas. Hermès did not attempt spectacle—it executed discipline. The craftsmanship, the quiet confidence, the ability to layer without overwhelming—this was Hermès operating at full power.
