In the words of Giancarlo Giammetti, co-founder of Valentino, “This is definitely one of Pierpaolo’s most beautiful shows ever. Elegant and youthful, perfect in proportions, incredible craftsmanship, and a tribute to Valentino and his White Collection at Pitti Palace. A delight for the eyes, a modernity for refined people, no fashion victims here, or streetwear, and no trash! Bravo Pierpaolo!” These sentiments perfectly capture the essence of the Valentino Spring Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection, a masterpiece that combines elegance, youthfulness, and a profound message of empowerment.
Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s vision for this collection is nothing short of remarkable. It serves as a celebration of the female body, highlighting its beauty and independence. The collection reflects a fundamentally feminist aim – the liberation of the body from the male gaze and societal expectations, an assertion of agency and comfort in one’s own skin.
One of the standout features of this collection is the presentation of nakedness as a natural state rather than a means of provocation. This approach challenges conventional notions of fashion and the female form. Fabric is sculpted into seamless three-dimensional forms using the innovative technique known as Altorilievo (High Relief). These naturalistic forms, inspired by Baroque motifs, frame the naked body, blurring the lines between clothing and the body itself.
The simplicity of the garments in this collection, including t-shirts, shirts, and jeans, is marked by their direct engagement with the body. Tailoring in cotton poplin reflects feminine curves with a gentle and tender touch. T-shirts are elevated to precious status, crafted in silk and transformed into evening gowns with exquisite embroidery. Linen and raw silk evoke a personal connection between the clothing and the woman wearing it.
Accessories in this collection play a crucial role in underscoring the relationship between fashion and a woman’s freedom. Low, grounded shoes facilitate movement, and the Valentino Garavani Vlogo Moon bag molds itself to the body’s form, symbolizing the fusion between woman and garment.
Sensuality takes center stage in this collection, exemplified by the live performance of the multidisciplinary artist FKA Twigs and her corps of dancers. Their performance, a fusion of music, dance, and movement, celebrates the physicality and femininity that are at the heart of this collection.
The Valentino Spring Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear collection is a triumph of design, craftsmanship, and a powerful statement of feminism and empowerment. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s vision has created a collection that challenges norms, celebrates the female body, and redefines sensuality in the world of fashion.
