Balmain Cruise 2021 Resort by Olivier Rousteing. Another epic collection Olivier Rousteing and his team together with CEO Jean-Jacques Gueval (former CEO of Zadig & Voltaire, known by his adventures from Sentier to LVMH) “produced” during the coronavirus pandemic. WWD magazine recently published an ode to this designer, mentioning that during lockdown period he actually managed to “produce” 400 looks for women and 300 looks for men.
WWD magazine published: “He brought the same upbeat approach to his collection, which was steeped in Nineties references that also happen to make for great lockdown viewing: “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman.”
Yes, indeed. Although Joelle Diderich, who wrote this article for WWD magazine, and who announces herself as an analyst and professional in fashion, working in industry for many years, forgot to notice one very important thing, that all looks presented in this Balmain Cruise 2021 Resort Collection are actually the copies, exact or close enough reproductions of the looks created by different designers in 90s: Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Franco Moschino, with some echos to Hermes and Versace.
Olivier Rousteing happily announced to Joelle Diderich for WWD magazine that “the sales were going really well before the closure of the wholesale and the retail. Our e-commerce quadrupled during the last two months… What I wanted to do after COVID-19 was first to reinforce the DNA of the brand. The second thing is that I brought back a lot of archives from Monsieur Balmain.” Hopefully this announce will be very well noted by fashion houses like Chanel and Moschino.
Do you like to play charades? We all do. Let’s call it “fashion charades”. Who can guess which look belongs to which designer in this new collection of Olivier Rousteing for Balmain? But let’s start from the fact: Pierre Balmain never designed pop-culture funky outfits, he was a great designer who designed ball gowns and very elegant suits. So it is not clear what archives Olivier Rousteing actually used at home. Total guess – VOGUE magazine archives of 90s. Just at glance…
So let’s start from “Piece de resistance” the famous CHANEL Yellow Sequin Scuba Jacket shown on Vogue Cover January 1991. That jacket Olivier Rousteing completely reproduced 100% to “reinforce DNA of Balmain”.
Of course classic Chanel black and white jackets were also reproduced. Let’s say “in close shave”.
Next on hit list of Olivier Rousteing is MISCHINO from 90s. This collection has many colorful looks, primary colors – all MOSCHINO.
Close enough. There’s no reason to play charades for more than 5 hours, and checking the looks, even at the beginning it was fun. So play with us and find the originals – Moschino 90s published in VOGUE.
Dolce & Gabbana also inspired Olivier Rousteing…
We can go on forever and guess every piece of the collection and finding the originals.
“Editor picks” of Olivier Rousteing for Balmain Cruise 2021 Resort collection apparently have some sort of success, and big sales, as he happily admits it. Although Olivier Rousteing doesn’t dare anymore to copy Thierry Mugler. Thierry Mugler publicly made a scandal about copies of his looks from 90s, which was happily tossed out by Kim Kardashian (old friend of Olivier Rousteing), who bought several very expensive pieces from Thierry Mugler. Read more about it HERE.
Talking of which… No wonder why Olivier Rousteing and Kim Kardashian are so close. It is known that her fortune was actually earned on the copies. Example, copies of Jean Paul Gaultier perfume bottles were reproduced by Kim Kardashian and had massive sales. Lawsuit and penalties were much lower than sales (5 times lower according to press). But this is another story.
Olivier Rousteing takes the same footsteps and keeps on sales before fashion houses will take some steps. Please see all looks of “Papa Copy-Catto” Maker Olivier Rousteing for Balmain Cruise 2021 Resort HERE.
