Burberry Fall Winter 2022-2023 London Runway “Celebrating Signatures”. Review by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.
It’s been a long time since we saw such spectacular runway show in London. Burberry is back, or is it?
Burberry decided after 4 fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris to do the spectacular event – a show to come back. Strategically a great plan. Animations in the city, runway dressed as a dinner table, invited guest stars Naomi Campbell , Kate Moss and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy – everything was a powerful statement.
The looks of the new collection were extraordinary, showring British heritage, dog hunting, military pride. I look at the collection and couldn’t stop thinking – this collection despite of very English Gorgets (the last surviving piece of plate armour) with Burberry on them, traditional British flannel throw with Checkered Tartan, still had this Dolce Gabbana-ish look. Yes, the glasses of course. And resemblance is uncanny.
All this dinner-parade, with fanfares and dressed dinner tables was suppose to celebrate “Burberry”. And it probably did, but once again I was no convinced, not even a little.
Burberry is a Londoner. For over 130 years, London has been our community and inspiration. Celebrating Burberry’s heritage in the center of our city, the Equestrian Knight Design comes to life. Crowd-sourced in a public competition to create a new logo for Burberry around 1901, it’s a symbol of our innovative attitude and connection with community.
London is an attitude: forward-thinking, adventurous, global and inclusive. Within the iconic Tower Bridge in the city we proudly call home, we revisit the Equestrian Knight Design as a hologram ahead of the #BurberryAW22 show tomorrow, an esteemed icon of our pioneering spirit.
“It was important for me to explore what it means to belong; how community is what truly brings meaning to the world. This collection celebrates coming together and the city in which we come together today. To me, London is a place of dreams. The collection embodies an intangible essence that is Britishness, honouring the beauty of the past while focusing on the future with thankfulness, hope and love,” – Riccardo Tisci.
They represent fashion better than anyone. Naomi Campbell , Kate Moss and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy were pictured Friday afternoon in London. The exceptional trio was in England to attend the presentation of the new Burberry collection. The muse of the “British” brand, dressed all in black, donned a sequined top, pants and a pair of boots. Leather gloves and a quilted bag completed her look.

Naomi Campbell, who recently discovered the joys of motherhood, wore an “oversized” suit and large sunglasses. The 51-year-old supermodel came to support her friend, Ricardo Tisci, artistic director of Burberry. She marked a short pause to greet Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The wife of the former President of the Republic was resplendent in her red ensemble, covered with a long black coat. A thin belt and a bag from the English house accessorized everything.
