Emanuel Ungaro Spring Summer 2022 – Kobi Halperin interview

Emanuel Ungaro Spring Summer 2022 – Kobi Halperin interview with Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.

The new collection of Emanuel Ungaro for Spring Summer 2022 created by Kobi Halperin, a designer who only recently joined the house and started his journey into magnificent archives. This collection inspired by the history of the house and one of its iconic symbols – butterfly. Kobi Halperin was completely caught into retro glamour and Saint-Tropez spirit of Ungaro.

Born and raised in Israel, Kobi studied and received his B.F.A from Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. Upon graduating, Kobi moved to New York where he became the Executive Creative Director at Elie Tahari for 13 years and the Executive Creative Director at Kenneth Cole Productions for 3 years.

In 2015, Kobi launched his eponymous ready-to-wear label. The label embodies a European sensibility and is recognized by its crafted artisan details and modern femininity. With a design philosophy that aims to elevate the everyday. In 2016, Kobi became a member of the CFDA.

Kobi Halperin joined Ungaro in June 2021. “I love the idea of embracing the Ungaro ideal and to once again harness that flair for feminine, sexy, effortless Parisian elegance in service to the modern woman,” he said in the interview.

“Women always want to be beautiful, they want to be happy. I can feel at this moment, after pandemic how people want fashion to be a source of happiness. Ungaro brand represents for me ultimate femininity.

Yesterday I went to the archives and I reviewed the collection from 1971 to 2007. So I had a journey into the history, and I definitely saw the connection, a “thread” from one collection to another. So first of all I felt passion. And this feeling I brought with me when I created this collection.

For me it’s not about trying to make a fashion and clothes that are revolutionary, I simply want to make beautiful clothes. I think my job is to make women ultimately feminine. When I see a woman wears my dress, looks in the mirror and smiles, then I know I did my job. So I think it’s really about allowing a woman to to feel good about herself.

I wanted to bring the Ungaro craftsmanship and workmanship from the past to the present, and transform it into modern elegance. I think the idea of making heritage of Emanuel Ungaro relevant for today is my statement in this Spring Summer 2022 collection.

When I create a piece I always start with the details, and only then create the silhouette. You see here the beautiful pleating details…. This raw edge looks like imperfection but in fact it shows so well the handwork. My goal is not create pieces by seasons but to create dresses, blouses, pants and skirts for any season, which will always be in every women closet, the pieces which woman can wear in winter and the summer… Timeless pieces, something what every woman can have with her forever.”

Let’s hope that this beautiful story will have no end.
