Henrik Vibskov’s Spring Summer 2024 Studio collection takes a unique and imaginative approach, drawing inspiration from the world of boxing and the concept of packaging. The collection revolves around the idea of boxes as vessels that protect and contain precious items for a limited time, exploring the anticipation and excitement associated with sending and receiving packages.
The theme of “unboxing” is expertly incorporated into the collection through clever design choices. Dresses and shirts feature unexpected details, such as fronts that can be worn in the back, blurring traditional boundaries and challenging conventional norms. Garments play with the shape of handles and incorporate bubble wrap-inspired textiles, juxtaposing the structured boxy styles with playful elements. Woven textiles evoke the feeling of being “in transit” or “out for delivery,” while prints showcase flat unfolded boxes, dynamic collages of boxing rings, and boxing glove flowers, subverting expectations in a peaceful manner. Notably, one textile even showcases the delivery bird transformed into a symbol of peace as a dove.
The collaboration with jewelry designer Vibe Harsløf adds an extra layer of charm to the collection. Handmade silver showpieces and accessories feature birds and bandaids as pendant earrings, necklaces, nose pieces, and headpieces with cartoonish birds encircling the knocked-out head. This collaboration injects a sense of whimsy and playfulness into the collection while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
Sustainability is also at the forefront of Vibskov’s Studio collection. The brand has made conscious efforts to use recycled or organic fabrics, with 83% of the garments in this collection consisting of certified fabrics. Certifications include GOTS Organic, GOTS Made with Organic, GRS Global Recycled Standard, and the use of nontoxic dyes and prints. Henrik Vibskov’s commitment to increasing the use of sustainable materials in future seasons is commendable and aligns with the growing importance of environmentally conscious fashion.
The installation for the collection transports viewers into the Vibskov boxing arena, where the ring itself is transformed into a soft, fringed, and vibrant space. Guided by the Ring Announcer, attendees are introduced to each fighter as they take the stage within constantly changing boxing rings. The atmosphere is dynamic and theatrical, with the dancers performing the Unboxing Waltz, adding an element of movement and energy to the presentation.
