5 years ago Jean Paul showed his last Ready-to-wear collection – Spring Summer 2015 season, when he decided dedicate himself only to Haute Couture.

This time Jean Paul Gaultier showed pieces from ready-to-wear menswear and haute couture collection – the best most creative pieces he ever did. The show opened up with coffin. 50 years of great creative history, Anna Wintour cried…

“For this last collection, which marks my 50 years of Fashion, I wanted to be faithful to the themes that have always obsessed me – jeans, corswets, sailors, androgyny … – by going again further, by extrapolating them, by kissing me more than ever! It is a celebration of yesterday, today, and especially tomorrow. I think fashion has to change. There are too many clothes, and too many clothes that are useless. Do not throw them away, recycle them! A beautiful garment is a living garment” – said Jean Paul Gaultier.

“Tonight you see my first collection. Haute Couture upcycling. I opened all the drawers, I recovered all my old collections, all that I bought on trips or in flea markets, to make confetti and reuse them. I used my archives like matter, I shook, shuffled, plaited them … Quite a work of Crafts and Sewing. Goodbye the “flambant ” new, hello the “flambant ” old! What I did in my early days without means, I do today with my heritage to give life to new creations,” – said Jean Paul Gaultier.

“That’s what I love above all: mix! Especially things that are not supposed to go together. I love the mix of materials, people, social classes, genres … and laugh with that. When you know how to look at it, there is beauty everywhere. It is not unique, it is multiple. I always observe, everywhere, I can’t help it, that’s why I don’t drive! Everything inspires me.
And it will continue with new adventures, the best is ahead.
