Peter Copping has accomplished something exceptional for Lanvin Resort 2027: a return to the formal glory of the house by looking inward, rather than merely backward. Copping demonstrates a profound conscientiousness toward Lanvin’s heritage, translating it for the modern woman who demands sophisticated, unfussy elegance. These pieces are fiercely contemporary, yet inherently timeless—garments that will simply never become démodé.

This pre-collection draws a direct line to the visionary founder herself. Jeanne Lanvin was an absolute pioneer of liberated, pragmatic chic, the first to expertly shorten skirts to free a woman’s movement. Copping channels this exact spirit. Interestingly, he revealed a secondary muse for this collection: the late interior architect Andrée Putman. An icon of cosmopolitan sleekness, Putman’s aesthetic serendipitously overlaps with Jeanne Lanvin’s. Putman even worked behind Lanvin’s former desk, and the geometric motifs she designed for the Concorde’s carpet echoed patterns in Lanvin’s own bathroom.

This structural overlap is immediately visible in the Resort 2027 silhouettes. To notice the full-length navy jersey gown with glistening, crystalline shoulders, or the sleek dress featuring a geometric grid of silver embellishments trailing a graceful scarf—both exude Putman’s architectural aura. Copping masters the art of “displacing volumes,” vividly demonstrated by a crimson high-neck midi dress that follows the body in front while billowing effortlessly behind, and a stunning red halter dress with perfectly engineered pleats.

The collection balances supreme polish with pragmatic comfort. A white, contoured caban with exaggerated, folded cuffs operates masterfully as a crisp mini-dress. Outerwear receives the same meticulous treatment: a voluminous khaki A-line coat and a relaxed, deeply elegant black trench offer travel-friendly sophistication.

Tailoring remains sharp but fluid. A beige jacket with a contrasting dark placket over a matching pencil skirt redefines daytime polish. Evening separates, such as a black draped top with a sequined peplum over a stark white slit skirt, demonstrate an elevation of comfortable materials into high fashion. While the presentation currently features only two trouser silhouettes—exemplified by a perfectly tailored black shirt tucked into wide-leg white trousers—Copping assures a more trouser-forward approach in the future. For now, Resort 2027 stands as a masterful intersection of Jeanne Lanvin’s liberating vision and Copping’s modern reality.
