What an evening it was! Paris was abuzz with excitement as Pont Neuf, the picturesque bridge spanning the Seine from Samaritaine to Saint Germain, transformed into a fashion extravaganza. But this time, it wasn’t due to a syndicate protest but a cultural spectacle that captivated the city.

Despite the challenges posed by the bustling crowd and the blocked streets from Concorde to Pont Neuf, fashion enthusiasts braved the chaos to witness an event unlike any other. The legendary Pharrell Williams, renowned musician and now the creative director of Louis Vuitton, extended a grand invitation to everyone, causing the throngs of attendees to swell beyond imagination.

As we traversed the city streets on foot, it became clear that this was no ordinary gathering. The bridge, adorned with 1500 exclusive guests, stretched far beyond the eye could see.

And so, on this remarkable night, Pharrell Williams unveiled his debut menswear collection for Louis Vuitton, Spring Summer 2024. The runway showcased an array of captivating designs, including pixelated prints, captivating “Damouflage” check patterns, and exquisite embroidery depicting faces from the works of the esteemed artist, Henry Taylor. The long evening was undoubtedly worth every step.

Oh… stop, stop, stop… What am I writing? I can’t find even a single classy look anymore in the Louis Vuitton collection. I’m probably totally wrong here but I believe that every collection should be addressed to a larger audience than just Rap musicians… saleswise…

Namaste, Pharrell! This collection pricked my eyes, despite the concert you gave together with Jay Z, which was pretty cool.

I understand that you pulled out some old pieces from your own wardrobe and “recycled” them with Louis Vuitton creative studio. I might turn my eyes out a little of the giant yellow Pajamas you put Beyoncé in. Gosh, I wish she’ll sleep well… But what I don’t understand is the FOCUS on chequerboard pattern.

Literally every look was “chequered” to pieces. You can call it a puzzle, or whatever you want to call it. But it is still a chequerboard pattern or damier. And I have a question: what exactly you are getting at? What exactly is your plan? Did someone tipped you? I’d never believe this is a coincidence. Louis Vuitton has many beautiful symbols: monogram, flowers, but you choose this particular chequerboard pattern.

Yes, of course it is known Louis Vuitton bag pattern but….. In October 2022 The General Court confirmed the cancellation of Louis Vuitton’s chequerboard pattern trademark in Europe, that resulted the cancellation in the USA. The reason: No distinctive character acquired through use.

IP Case Law | The General Court confirms the cancellation of Louis Vuitton’s chequerboard pattern trade mark.

In case T-275/21, the GC confirmed the Boards of Appeal decision to cancel Louis Vuitton’s chequerboard pattern mark on the grounds that it had not acquired distinctiveness through use throughout the territory of the European Union.
In its ruling, the GC points out that public from Member States exposed to advertising campaigns published elsewhere – e.g. when travelling–, cannot be considered relevant evidence for assessing the public’s perception in the Member States concerned.

It also concludes that the fact that a website on which the mark is promoted is accessible in certain Member States isn’t sufficient to demonstrate that a significant part of the relevant public in those countries has been exposed to it.

Do you plan to take it with you after, Son of a… Pharaoh? You are a compilator, right? So what exactly you are planning to compilate with this chequerboard pattern happy ever after? Or it is a statement to protect and make it known on all territories… so it’ll be clear to everyone that it is Louis Vuitton, and the pattern will be associated with the brand ones and for all. Then I’ll be more than happy, and there’s indeed a great plan to engage a composer and singer to promote this… Smart Marketing… Time will tell…

That would be great if the Press-releases had some information… But it’s been a very long time since they were actually informative.  So this show left a sour feeling…  feeling that something is going terribly wrong…
