Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 Ready-to-Wear. Review by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.
A desire for transmission. The Spring Summer 2022 collection is an invitation to “Le Grand Bal” of Time. Tonight, time is of no consequence. Yet time is everything. It dissolves functions and codes. It unites wardrobes. Day becomes night. The humble uniform becomes sumptuous. “I like the figure of a vampire who travels through the ages, adapting to dress codes of the era,” said Nicolas Ghesquiere, designer of Louis Vuitton house, in the interview.
The story is of the XIX century ball is very cinematic. Capes and jeans makes you guess that this story has a gothic echo of a vampire ball. The mix of the wardrobes of different eras created a fusion of generations.
From yesterday to today. The present moment. Clothing as the conduit. The experience of dressing, a voice that carries on. Leading the countdown and staying one step ahead. The transformative creative fusion of generations. A vibrant flow of style. The night will be all the more beautiful.
An activist momentarily disturbed the show, walking down with a banner that says “Overconsumption = Extinction”. Alma Dufour, a group spokesperson told to the press: “LVMH is the world leader of luxury and has a responsibility when it comes to trends that push the textile industry to constantly renew collection faster and produce more”. And it was definitely not a right place and not a right time to bring attention of the public to the overconsumption problem. It is not always clear why Louis Vuitton house is targeted by the protestors. Perhaps only for the reason of the big interest of the public and big buzz.
Using the brand who has responsible strategy and can’t be related to “overconsumption” only because the brand is worldwide known and famous is simply ridiculous if not cheap. Breaking the show is such disrespect to the work of the artisans, disrespect to the countless hours of work, disrespect to the artist, just because you can is not the way to drive attention to the problem.
