Raf Simons Fall Winter 2021-2022. Review by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.

Since 1 April 2020, the Fools’ Day (though it was not a joke), Raf Simons became co-creative director of Prada, in partnership with Miuccia Prada, literally everyone started praising him. Probably because he became also a heir of this big Prada corporation. His “Oversize is surprise”, his “Hearts are more than just hearts”, everything became extremely intellectual, creative and had a special meaning.

Indeed Raf Simons tried his forces as creative director at Jil Sander, Christian Dior, Calvin Klein, and finally he landed at Prada. So for the next Fall Winter 2021-2022 season Raf Simons labeled “at Large” all pieces of his collection, holding up by colorful skeleton hands. Very creative, and absolutely break trough designs… Oh of course, the bright colors. No one used red and green colors before with this meaning, and here we are wearing knitted huge pullovers of bright colors. Very innovative and creative.

Raf Simons gave several themes for his Fall Winter 2021-2022 collection, his own Metropolis, triggering intellectuals of all ages. “I feel that in a subtle way what I do has some political edge in terms of attitude,” – said Raf Simons.

Let’s get all Political then. So the themes designer proposed for the next Fall 2021 season:

Ataraxia – a Greek term first used in Ancient Greek philosophy by Pyrrho and subsequently Epicurus and the Stoics for a lucid state of robust equanimity characterized by ongoing freedom from distress and worry. In non-philosophical usage, the term was used to describe the ideal mental state for soldiers entering battle.

Equanimity is a Buddhist term. It means breath, recite a mantra, and walk away. This term means mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.

Allegiance is another term used by Raf Simons. It means loyalty or commitment to a superior or to a group or cause, the fidelity owed by a subject or citizen to a sovereign or government.

Dichotomy means a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different.

Devotion is a loyalty by Raf Simons, or enthusiasm for a person or activity.

Synchronicity – the simultaneous occurrence of events which appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.
