In a celebration that marked more than half a century of fashion history, Ralph Lauren’s Fall Winter 2024-2025 show took a heartfelt journey back to its roots. Hosted inside Ralph Lauren’s private design studio in New York City, the event beautifully echoed the designer’s first womenswear show in 1972, providing a full-circle moment for attendees and the fashion community alike.

The setting of Lauren’s inaugural show 52 years ago—a humble yet ambitious presentation in his offices—mirrored this latest display, albeit with notable differences that highlighted the evolution of the brand and the fashion industry. In 1972, the audience comprised mainly editors and industry insiders, a stark contrast to this year’s gathering of celebrities including Glenn Close, Jessica Chastain, and Kerry Washington, showcasing the broadened appeal and star-studded allure Ralph Lauren commands today. Notably absent from the earlier shows, modern additions like a post-show dinner at the Polo Bar, featuring models donned in runway attire, highlighted how the Ralph Lauren experience has transformed into a more immersive and extended celebration of fashion.
Ralph Lauren’s aesthetic has remained remarkably consistent, a testament to his vision of timeless and individualistic style. “The woman I design for has a beauty that comes from an inner confidence,” Lauren reflected in his press release. This ethos was palpable throughout the show as Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are” played, symbolizing an enduring appreciation for authentic, unfading beauty.

The showstopper of the evening, Christy Turlington, exemplified Lauren’s dedication to timeless style. Dressed in neatly tailored clothing accented with an RL 888 leather tote, Turlington shared a personal anecdote about her early encounter with Lauren, underscoring the deep personal connections Lauren fosters within the fashion industry.
Always cinematic in his approach, Lauren’s designs included nods to Western aesthetics, likely inspired by the upcoming Kevin Costner movie, “Horizon.” Elements like a leather horse wrangler’s jacket, suede pants paired with a neckerchief, and a 10-gallon hat transported attendees to a rugged American West. Lauren himself embraced this theme, appearing in a colorful western shirt and well-loved jeans, earning a standing ovation for his vibrant and authentic presentation.
The runway also featured urban sophistication and red carpet glamour, with outfits like a chunky cardigan paired with a cocktail dress and a pinstripe jacket over a silk charmeuse shirt and long skirt in gunmetal gray. The finale dazzled with beaded gowns that captured and reflected light like facets of a diamond, leaving the audience in awe of the meticulous craftsmanship and elegance.

Ralph Lauren’s Fall Winter 2024-2025 show was not just a fashion event; it was a homage to a rich legacy and a forward-looking promise to keep tradition alive while embracing contemporary trends. As attendees left Ralph Lauren’s studio, they carried with them a renewed appreciation for a brand that has consistently celebrated the strength of individual style and the beauty of timeless fashion. Ralph Lauren, after 52 years, continues to stand as a pillar of classic design and ceaseless innovation in the ever-evolving world of fashion.
