The Pre-Fall 2023 collection by Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino breaks away from the formal black tie attire and embraces a pragmatic approach with stylish mismatches. The collection features pieces with a polished ease and no conceptual detours, such as a brocade full-circle skirt paired with a masculine striped shirt and a leg-baring, skimpy bodysuit in gray wool worn under a chic navy peacoat.
The collection’s main themes include richly embroidered full skirts and mermaid trailing skirts embellished with sequined florals, which were given a nonchalant treatment by pairing them with simple pieces like a dove gray jersey sweatshirt. The evening offer introduced broad-shouldered masculine pantsuits in a monochrome palette with pops of bright green, Valentino red, and the new Pink PP hue adding vitality to sleek long dresses and fluid jumpsuits. Piccioli’s idea of luxury is not quiet and exudes the charisma of haute dolce vita ingrained in the house’s codes. It would’ve been interesting to hear his thoughts on the subject of luxury.
