High in the rugged peaks of the Lebanese mountains, where ancient stone meets an endless horizon, Ziad Nakad staged a subtle masterclass in modern couture. For Fall-Winter 2026–2027, the designer steps away from the traditional, enclosed salon to present “L’Envol” (Flight)—a 34-piece collection conceived as an invitation to escape the relentless noise of contemporary life. Using his homeland’s towering landscape as a silent co-author, Nakad builds a narrative around resilience, grounding, and the quiet dignity of returning to one’s origins.
Against a stark backdrop of natural arches and mirrored monoliths, the mountain terrain serves as a deliberate contrast to the lightness of the garments. The setting reflects a broader shift in couture: fashion stripped of superficial spectacle, choosing instead to measure its impact against the permanent grandeur of nature.
Mechanics of Motion: Featherweight Architecture
The bird in flight provides the conceptual anchor for the collection, though Nakad avoids literal interpretations in favor of structural poetry. The technical achievement of L’Envol lies in its ability to balance intense hand-embroidery with an illusion of effortless weightlessness.
Corsetry is engineered with architectural precision—most strikingly in a sky-blue ballgown where gold lattice stitching and metallic flora frame a disciplined waist, letting the skirt volume drop with easy fluidity. Elsewhere, Nakad translates the mechanics of wings into dramatic, fan-pleated shoulder elements that envelop column silhouettes in blush tones, creating dynamic geometric frames around the wearer. Movement becomes a tactile feature: liquid crystal fringing sways beneath heavily beaded bodices, while trailing ostrich feathers and sheer, crystal-mapped tulle turn every step into an optical dance of light and air.
The Contrast of Texture and Earthly Palette
A close inspection of the materials reveals a sophisticated play between structure and softness. Velvet, tailored leather accents, and dense, custom-designed Swarovski elements bring a grounded, almost armor-like quality to the delicate lace and fine tulle. Nakad proves that soft femininity gains its true power when juxtaposed with solid, unexpected textures.
The color story mirrors the mountain environment at varying hours of the day. Warm champagne gold and pale rose evoke the soft light of dawn, while rich emeralds, deep navy, and jet black reflect the shadow and depth of the surrounding stone. Heavy metallic draping in molten gold, sculpted into sharp peplums over sheer, embellished skirts, highlights Nakad’s ongoing fascination with classic royal portraiture filtered through a clean, modern lens.
An Exercise in Restraint
Where many couture presentations feel compelled to end with overwhelming grandiloquence, Nakad subverts expectations with his final bridal piece. The collection culminates in a wedding gown defined by quiet simplicity, fluid lines, and an absence of excess weight.
In a season often overwhelmed by bravado, L’Envol relies on pure line, exceptional craftsmanship, and absolute clarity of vision. It stands as a thoughtful meditation on elevation—proving that true elegance doesn’t need to shout to be heard above the clouds.
