Best of New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2022. Review by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.
Apart from the joy of getting back to having live shows New York didn’t show anything else. Usually during the fashion week there are more than 40 designers who show their collections. This time we can hardly count to 15. Very small number of the designers, very small number of pieces. The smallest number – 7 pieces were shown by Coach. Designers for the Spring Summer 2022 season instead of 70-80 pieces showed only 30-40 pieces. And strangely enough all these capsule collections were not related to the next season at all, all of them came with the concept adopted long time ago by Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger “SEE NOW, BUY NOW”. All pieces are already available online.
But I’d probably should call this article “Worst of New York Fashion Week ever”, with no season attached. Where are the big and known American brands? Not here. And some of them like Ralph Lauren or Max Mara are not presenting collections during New York Fashion Week for some time now. And now even the emerging designers are not interested. Projects like Runway 360 failed, as many other initiatives organized by American Fashion Federation CFDA. And the reality of it all can’t be hidden behind the glass.
And there’s a big question about the existence of New York Fashion Week and CFDA in the near feature. For the first time a known counterfeiting goods designer from Harlem Dapper Dan was an official sponsor of New York Fashion Week. Hypocrisy is a small word for that, and specially after when CEO & President of CFDA Steven Kolb together with Chairman Tom Ford in February 2021 wrote an open letter to President Joe Biden with demand to organize a special commission and appoint a senator to deal with counterfeit, copyright and trademark infringements.
The only designer social media accounts of New York Fashion Week published was a “legendary” counterfeiting goods designer Dapper Dan, who became a star and the most praised designer of this Fashion Week with the support of New York official Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin. This is the most SCHOCKING NEWS of the New York Fashion Week organized by American Fashion Federation CFDA in 2021.
