When in 2018 Moncler introduced a new concept Moncler Genius and presented a group of genius fashion designers creating under one name, using unique Moncler technologies it was something absolutely unique and creative. The capsule collections of 6-8 designers were shown during the special presentation in Milan. This concept fascinated many brands.
The uniqueness of this Moncler Genius project was that the chosen designers had very different styles, so their designs under Moncler were addressed to a great group of people, with different tastes and styles. Unfortunately today it narrowed down only to one hip hop style destined for the gen-z generation. And many of us lost interest.
The total fascination in the first 2 years of Moncler Genius was the participation of Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Valentino, who first created puffed dresses. His “Puffed Nuns” (2018-2019 collections), and then “Puffed Queens” (2019-2020) became an iconic reference of the “puffed” or “goosed down” elegance. Unfortunately Moncler discontinued this line. But this became a tradition.
This Paris Fashion Week a young designer Chen Peng showed a fabulous collection of Puffed dresses, continuing the elegant style for winter-wear. And there’s no wonder about a year ago he designed a capsule collection for Moncler. So let’s say he is totally ready for Moncler Genius now.
Chen Peng used modern techniques such as filling evening wear with goose-down material to create his “Down Evening Wear” collection. I’m glad to know that Puffed Gowns are going to become ones again the most wanted winter-wear.
