Philipp Plein Spring Summer 2019 at Milan Fashion Week. 180 VIP guests, 500 bottles of champagne. Philipp Plein breaks down his €2 million Milan Fashion Week extravaganza.
Philipp Plein celebrated this season his 20th brand anniversary. “As a warm-up to the anniversary, I wanted to put some elements that take influence from my beginnings,” says Plein. “I wanted to call on my archives, even though I still think of my company as a start-up.” Plein also played tribute to one of his heroes: Michael Jackson. “My customers are young and are like me,” says the designer. “They understand the fun side of fashion.”
“I was inspired by a private dinner I held in Moscow. It was a great success with just a few people, very intimate. I wanted to create the same vibe in Milan, but of course in a bigger way. I like the fact that people can have a dinner set in front of them whilst watching the show. The mirrors enhance the space so I wanted the catwalk, even if it is a bit fragile, to be mirrored.”
90-metre-long mirrored stage turned into giant dinner table. Japanese food from Finger’s restaurant, and washed it down with 500 bottles of champagne. “Catering was curated by Finger’s, which is one of my favourite restaurants in Milan. It is all sushi, but reimagined, as the chef is half-Brazilian. I like that you can really feel the exotic Brazilian touch in the menu,” says Philipp Plein.
“Rita is a friend, we met in London and we had a crazy idea for her to come and appear at my after party, and I decided to call 6ix9ine again – I recently did a project with him and Nicki Minaj in New York.”
“I wanted to have the Cirque Le Soir crew there, snakes and all, as I felt that the idea of mixing different arts in my show was a winning combination. I also wanted it to be a tribute to the pop world and Michael Jackson, but most of all, this is a tribute to the very beginning of my fashion career.”
This show was another pearl of Milan Fashion Week and another great success of the designer.
