The Met Gala 2022 Best “Gilded Glamour” Looks. Review by Eleonora de Gray, Editor-in-Chief of RUNWAY MAGAZINE.
The official theme of The Met Gala tonight is “In America: An Anthology Of Fashion”, which goes under “Gilded Glamour”. Everyone from Hillary Clinton to Sarah Jessica Parker, from Hugh Jackman to Elon Musk, and most of all, known and unknown Harlem “Royalties” (sparkled by golden and diamond teeth) came here tonight.
This is actually the event everyone would expect from Vogue for the last 10 years. And this is indeed the most glamorous event, for the first time interactive and live organized by Vogue.
This Gala is dedicated to “Gilded Glamour” – the American fashion. The statement about how American fashion won over Parisian (European) fashion was published a couple of days before the event. “American culture”, “American spirit”, “American fashion”.
To notice: every little detail thought through. After Elon Musk bought Twitter, he was not just invited to the Met Gala, but Vogue hosted its first live event on Twitter instead of Instagram. In fact, instead of updated pages on Vogue with the looks, everyone can watch short interviews with all invited guests, and can vote for the looks if they correspond to the “Gild and Glamour” theme of the evening. How many more surprises will be unfold?
Hillary Clinton praised not just American fashion but American spirit, wearing French-American designer Joseph Altuzarra. She said in her interview that she wanted to wear something which would call to all American women in American history, from Sacagawea to Eleanor Roosevelt. Names of all significant American women were embroidered on her dress.
Dresses by Valentino, Versace and Gucci (Italian fashion houses), Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Givenchy (French fashion houses) were the primary choice of the guests to wear tonight… to celebrate American fashion. Even more, Anna Wintour wore Chanel evening gown and the tiara for this celebration. And this is a beautiful addition to the speech by Tom Ford, Chairman of the CFDA, about how American fashion won over European fashion. Winning indeed…
Four American designers were the best choices for tonight: Thom Browne, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Prabal Gurung.
Here’s to the winners!
